I’d like to personally invite you to a special gathering on April 17th at 6:30 PM at Feel Something Studio in Austin, hosted by the Honorable Judge Denise Hernández and myself. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/path-to-recovery-tickets-1290796540199?aff=oddtdtcreator This evening is about something that has shaped my life for the past 14 years—the path to recovery.
In 2011, my life changed in an instant. As it has been well documented, I suffered a traumatic brain injury that forced me to rebuild myself from the ground up. I lost the career I had worked for, the identity I had built, and the certainty of what my future would look like. Recovery wasn’t a straight line. It was a battle—one that required patience, resilience, and a willingness to reinvent myself.
Art became part of that reinvention. So did therapy and so did the sheer force of will it takes to get back up when everything in you is telling you to stay down. Today, 14 years later, I am practicing law again with a renewed perspective. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that recovery is possible. not easy, not guaranteed, but absolutely possible.
I am honored to be presenting this evening with Judge Hernández. She has been a true force for good in our community, dedicating her career to ensuring that people get the help they need to rebuild their lives. I am especially excited about an initiative we are launching to help attorneys access good therapy and mental health resources. The legal profession demands a lot, and too many attorneys struggle in silence, unable to find the support they need to manage stress, pressure, and burnout.

I hope to see you all there. This will be an evening of art, conversation, and community. We'll have refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, and music.
As a special guest and surprise, the Honorable Judge Selena Alvarenga will be performing guitar and singing. Most people know Judge Alvarenga for her leadership in the legal community, but many may not realize she is also a talented musician. In the spirit of creativity and celebration, she will be sharing some of her music with us that evening.
Per the Honorable Judge's request, I will be showing some selected pieces of my artwork, including some from my latest series, Fractal Fluency,
